Tree Frog Vivarium pet

The frog pet is one of the best choices for vivariums. There are thousands of different frogs that can be raised in captivity, so I’ll start with the most interesting ones, and continuously update with new species.

Red-eyed Tree Frog (Agalychnis callidryas)

Your tree frog vivarium pet needs more space than normal frogs. It’s a tree frog, so it must have climbing space to feel comfortable. The best size of your vivarium is around 65 cm by 35 cm by 45 cm. Of course it can be a little bid smaller than that, but if it’s bigger it will be better. The young frogs must be kept in smaller enclosures.

The substrate for the vivarium have to be safe for your pet if swallowed. There are many options but people tend to recommend coconut husk fiber. Gravel and small pieces of bark should be avoided because they can cause problems if accidentally swallowed while the frog is feeding.

Also there must be good hiding places in your vivarium. All  kind of coconut shells, driftwood, cork bark tubes, vines and bamboo poles does the work very well. Older tree frog vivarium pets tend to hide under big leaves, so providing plants with big leaves is ideal.

These frogs come from the tropical rain forest, so keeping high humidity is essential. The temperature should be 24C to 29C during the day, and cooler at night.

There must be constantly fresh water in your vivarium. Use mineral or spring water because the frogs are sensitive to heavy metals and other polluting materials. Change the water every day.

The tree frog vivarium pet eats small prey. Usually they are fed by crickets but all kind of insects like mealworms, wax worms, and small silkworms will be good. You should feed your pet on daily basis, and adults can be fed more often. I recommend you to feed them at night, when they are hunting.
